Memorise any word in 5 seconds: 4 principles

· Andrey Drobotin

🧩 Every memory technique rests on four simple rules. Understand them — and the rest is like a construction kit.

👃 1. All the senses. Memorising “lemon”? Feel how sour it is, how your jaw tightens, how it smells when cut. Five seconds — and the lemon won’t leave.

🎈 2. Exaggeration. Ordinary things aren’t remembered. Soup served in a bathtub you’ll remember for life. Yes, it’s silly. That’s exactly why it works — the brain grabs the unusual.

🌀 3. Movement. Not “a nail lies on the table” but “the nail hammers itself into the table, bang-bang-bang, and the table jumps”.

🔍 4. Changing size. An elephant the size of a fly sits on your palm. A button the size of a stadium.

🔋 Put it together: a giant battery runs down the street on tiny legs, sparks fly, it smells burnt, it shouts “I’m dead!” and drops onto a bench. Done — the battery stays in your head.

💡 Key: the image must be yours. The first vivid image that comes to mind is usually the best.

✍️ Try it from the course module: mirror, safe, melon, glue, cat — an image for each word using all four principles.
