Derived meanings

Derived meanings are the third house seen from each of the twelve houses. On each diagram the house we count from is highlighted, and an arrow leads to the third.

First from the third: by itself

The meanings of the third house strengthen each other. I make an effort and become more decisive. I become more decisive and start communicating. After communication new efforts appear. That is how I become a person who knows how to fight and carry things through to the end.

Second from the second: effort feeds resource

The third house is resource for the second. If you need to assess savings or memory, look at the lord of the second and also at the lord of the third, which feeds it.

Third from the first: desire and spark

This is the first step of Brahma from the lagna. Here is kama — the desire to live, a spark in the eyes. About twenty years ago at a yoga centre I saw a person in depression who could not pick a paper clip up from the floor. To help such a person, you need to open the third house for them. Ketu here can give weak motivation. Rahu is good here.

Fourth from the twelfth: happiness from giving

It is easy for a decisive person to enjoy the themes of the twelfth house: meditation, sleep, charity, life abroad, solitude without loneliness, spending without fear. An indecisive person is afraid of every purchase. My teacher gave an example from a police school: by how decisively a person takes on a task, you can see who will succeed.

I have Saturn with Mars in the twelfth. Abroad my work grew tenfold. I call this the Saturnian-Martian type of happiness. Even my sleep I put in order decisively: a heavy nine-kilogram blanket helps.

Fifth from the eleventh: a mind learned from elders

The younger look at the elders who have already fulfilled their desires and learn from them. Efforts today shape a future in which desires come true. That is why lottery winners usually become poorer: they have a weak third house; they cannot hold on to what came without effort. I develop this intellect through Saturn: system, endurance and respect for the experience of elders.

Sixth from the tenth: helpers at work

If you were given five or six helpers, would you prefer to do everything yourself or involve them? A strong third house knows how to delegate. “Kiddo, bring the hammer” — and the work goes faster. A weak third house sees helpers as a hindrance and does everything alone.

A natural leader does not get tired of people, just as a teacher with a retrograde planet does not get tired of repeating the same thing for the hundredth time.

Seventh from the ninth: material versus spiritual

The third house stands opposite the ninth. The ninth says: follow the higher meaning. The third says: if I do not support myself, I will not be able to live. A person always stands between these two forces. Too much third house — and I, the soul, forget myself in the struggle for survival and go against dharma. Too little — and we cannot live in the material world.

In our time a spiritual person definitely needs to work. Even if they live on donations, that is also work.
