What this book will give you
This book is about the second house of the horoscope, for those who already know the basics of jyotish: signs, planets, houses and their lords. Here I have collected my intensive classes on the second house and the beginners' course. I have tried to keep the living speech of the classes: examples, jokes, students' questions and my own chart, on which I show every technique.
What you will get in practice:
- understand the second house as the source of resource for the body and for all of life — from food and speech to self-esteem and savings;
- learn to read the derived meanings of the second house, counting it from each of the twelve houses;
- master a simple way to see whether two houses are connected in a chart;
- work through the sign of the second house for each of the twelve lagnas;
- see where the lord of the second house goes and learn who curates that placement;
- work through the planets in the second house in their mature and immature expression;
- learn to look at the second house in aspects, in the divisional charts D2, D9 and D12, in synastry and in transits;
- see the second house in ashtakavarga, in the directions and in the chakras.
Derived meanings of the second house
One hundred and forty-four combinations
When you start counting derived meanings, the seams on your brain trousers burst. Be patient. Twelve houses, each can be counted from each — that makes one hundred and forty-four combinations. We will not learn them by heart. We will learn to think: which house in order is the second house from another house, and what follows from that.

First from the second: mother and child
This is the basic meaning we started with. The second house feeds the first. The hungry one is frightening, the fed one is calm and can move on.
Third from the twelfth: resource as an initiative for charity
The third house is initiative, effort. The second stands third from the twelfth, so our resources become an initiative for charity, for life abroad, for everything that takes us beyond the familiar.
The Vedas say: what is given voluntarily returns in the next life. To an ordinary person tenfold, to a saint a hundredfold. As in the cartoon about Prostokvashino: to sell something unnecessary, you first have to buy something unnecessary. To receive, you first have to give.
Fourth from the eleventh: happiness from savings
The fourth house is happiness and peace. The second is the fourth from the eleventh, the house of desires and profit. Savings bring happiness to our desires. When the eleventh house is strong, a person wants big desires and easy money. In a child's chart this can show a lazy child: wants a lot and right away, but does not want to save.
Fifth from the tenth: savings are the fruit of work
The fifth house is fruit. The second is the fifth from the tenth, which means savings are the fruit of work. Money is the equivalent of usefulness to society. In Kali Yuga money is called cursed when it is not used in service. The second and tenth houses are very strongly connected.
I told my students how poor people in India compete every morning for a day's work. Worked today — ate in the evening. Here you can clearly see how the tenth house directly feeds the second.
Sixth from the ninth: accumulation as the enemy of spirituality
The sixth house is enemies and obstacles. The second is the sixth from the ninth, so accumulation can become an enemy of spirituality. The ninth house is also the father. The father strained himself, worked to the limit so that the child would have money.
If the lord of the second house stands in the ninth together with Mercury, a person can earn through dharma: for example, by selling something at yoga retreats. Or speech is used for the spiritual: lectures, books, guidance.
Eighth from the seventh: the life force of a marriage
The eighth house is longevity. The second is the eighth from the seventh, so through savings we see the life force of a marriage and a business. When there is a shared cushion, it is easier for the union to survive hard times.
Tenth from the fifth: money as the result of intellect
The tenth house is the result of action. The second is the tenth from the fifth, which means money is the result of applying intellect. It happens: two honours degrees, and no money. There is intellect, but it never reached action.
Eleventh from the fourth: income from property and education
The eleventh house is profit. The second is the eleventh from the fourth: savings from property, from education, from transport. A person can earn, for example, through a taxi.
Papa Carlo gave his last five coins so that Buratino could go to school. In a child's chart the parents live in his second house: they feed him, raise him and invest in him.
